退廃の美。爛熟して倦んだ時代の精神から生まれる美は決して健全ではないけれど、その美しさには、引きずり込まれるような魔力があります・・・。

グスタフ・マーラー(1860-1911)の交響曲第5番から第4楽章のアダージェット。数多い天才の名曲の中でも、特に美しい珠玉の作品の一つだと思います。この交響曲は、マーラーが後に妻となるアルマと出会った頃に作曲され、このアダージェットは彼女への愛の歌だと言われています。ここまで音楽が語ると言葉は要らなくなりますね。

このアダージェットは、映画「ヴェニスに死す」で使われてから一躍有名になったそうですが、トーマス・マンの原作を読んでこの曲を合わせようと思ったヴィスコンティ監督の素晴らしさに脱帽です。両者に共通する、美と陶酔と破滅の香り。もう、ぴったりではないですか？！

本来はオーケストラで演奏されるものですが、ピアノで弾いてみました。敢えて、明るい風そよぐ窓からの風景（動画です）を合わせてみました。案外合うかも・・・ね？

Decadent beauty that comes from the spirit of a matured civilization is not very healthy, but has a strong power to attract me....I've loved this adagietto - Mahler's love song to Alma - I consider this movement one of the most beautiful and genius pieces of music. No word is needed when music talks so much like this.  

It seems that this adagietto became famous worldwide since it was used in the film 'Death in Venice'. Both the music and the novel share things in common : beauty, intoxication, and destructive feeling. Great Visconti!

I tried to play it myself since I love it so much...! I combined this music with a very healthy view from the windows of my house (it's a video, not a photo), not a bad idea maybe...?
