メトネルの音楽は、摘んでから5日くらいたって乾燥してほのかに甘い香りを残したあざみの花のような音楽だと思います。開いたばかりの鮮やかな紫ではなくて、熟れて色が抜けてきたあざみ。一見地味な色合いの中に堪らない美しさがあります。あまり満足に弾けませんでしたが、先日のエルウィン・プールストラ門下生ピアノ演奏発表会での演奏です。
Medtner's music reminds me of sweet-smelling dried thistle flowers which were picked some days ago. They don't have vivid violet colour anymore but are going to maturity. Their colour is faded, but there is astonishing beauty in it. I'm not very satisfied with this performance, anyway this performance is from our pupil's concert.
